Spanish Lunch

Yesterday was an incredible day.

I woke up at 1 when I was supposed to be in Getafe at 1:30 to have lunch with my profesora from my school there. I woke up in a panic because I slept through my alarm. I intended on waking up at 11am but I woke up at 1 and it takes about 30-45 minutes just to get to Getafe. I took the fastest shower of my life, ran (literally) to the metro stop, caught the train and I arrived only 10 minutes late, because Toni, my profesora, called me while I was riding the train saying they were running late too.  I felt terrible about arriving late, but what are you going to do? It was an honest mistake.

But I met them in the metro station and they were all so friendly, inviting, and supportive. We first went to a bar and got small beers and delicious tapas. Her family was really terrific, they were so nice to me and they all took really great care of me. Toni is the most amazing woman, she insists that I try everything while I’m here and she repeatedly said to me that it’s necessary for her to take care of me while I’m here. I can’t believe how considerate and welcoming she is.

After tapas, we went to this terrific little restaurant that Toni goes to all the time (she knew the waitress/chef by name). We had a ton of aperitivos (hors d’oeuvres or appetizers) and they were all amazing! Then we got our main dishes, I got some meat something or other (I don’t know the names of the food in Spanish so I ordered blindly) but it was absolutely delicious! When I finished eating, I was so full, but if I had more food (of course I ate every single bite), I would have forced it down because it tasted so good.
During lunch, we were all conversating in Spanish and I was on a roll. I don’t know what came over me, but my Spanish was terrific, and I was cracking jokes, and we were all laughing and it was just an overall amazing time.

We eventually forced down desert, I had a terimissu (sp?), and then we all left. But Toni paid for everything and forced me to try a bite of everyone’s dishes so that I could taste real good Spanish food. And everything I tried was phenomenal. After words, Toni’s nieces gave me a ride back to Madrid where they live.

But on the whole, it was just so nice of her to do that and I am so glad to have such a wonderful person in my life. I couldn’t have asked for a better co-worker. She takes great care of me :)

I owe her so much.  I appreciate what she does so much.

Write more later,
Graham
